Putting the fun back in Fashion
Working with Tamzyn Elliott is bound to be fun. With a seemingly endless supply of ideas and inspiration, Tamzyn brings a fresh approach to each brief and pushes boundaries to continuously create something new.
Tamzyn styled up a storm for the Motus VM launch photo shoot. Taking a cue from the window concept themes; retro 50′s, Op Art and Harajuku eclectic Tamzyn crafted three completely flamboyant looks for each genre, illustrating that great styling alone can create maximum drama for window displays.

Little Minx Lookbooks
Friday, July 17th, 2009Little Minxes
We have put together two mini lookbooks for insertion into Minx shoe boxes, as well as inserts into the Minx Goody Bags. The initial campaign ‘High Tea in Heels’ was a huge success, with many retailers organizing high tea themed events to launch the new season range. Hot on the heels of the ’High Tea’ summer campaign (see below) the theme for winter is ‘Over the Top’, and showcases a carnival of colour. The Minx Girls are still featured, but footwear is very much the hero of this edition.
Deliverables // 16 page, A6 sized booklet integrating client supplied photography with line illustrations from Cass and Narelle McAllum (Characters by Cass see article in the ‘inspiration’ page of this site). Plus Shelf Wobbler for retail outlets stocking Minx Shoes.

High Tea in Heels
Quintessentially Minx, this cute little look book provides an opportunity to showcase the new season range, whilst also reinforcing the unique personality of the brand.

Art Direction // the main challenge of this brief was to work with photography taken by the client themselves, of sample footwear, shot for a different project. Samples were then unavailable, so working with what we had was the only option. Minx were also very keen to introduce illustrated characters into marketing material, but needed to ensure the illustration style was the right fit for the brand. Luckily we found Cass.
Production Specifics // Cass and Motus worked together to develop the tea party theme and map out how illustrations would work with products and pagination. Although these characters were adapted from Cass’s original Harajuku figures which integrated textures and line art – line drawings only were provided for the Minx project, so that we could select textures and colours to fit with products once placed into pages.

“I LOVE THE STYLE OF GRAFFITI AND STREET ART… SIMPLICITY FUSED WITH THE EXPLOSION OF BRIGHT COLOURS!!”
Cass’s illustrations for the recent Minx ‘High Tea in Heels’ summer look book, epitomized the feminine, cute & individual essence of the Minx brand (see Minx in Client Case Studies).
Cass’s characters bring a fresh, quirky dimension to fashion illustration, fusing retro styling with new media for a uniquely interpretive twist.
Working with lots of detailing, textures, colours and patterns, Cass is inspired by vintage designs… Specifically burlesque, old Shanghai style, Art Deco, Art Nouveau posters, old Japanese woodcuts, fans, Islamic tiles, henna designs. Russian dolls, Harajuku culture, circus culture, fairy tales to name just a few.

UK08 AUTUMN WINDOW EXCERPTS
A quick scan across the window displays of some major high street retailers in Autumn 08 highlights the following trends:
Use of black backdrops / Coat hangers used to display garments in window, use a garment rack also (River Island, Top Shop) / A behind the scenes construction aesthetic and exposed framework (H&M) / Illustrated black and white prop-like cut outs layered with products (Habitat & River Island).
All Saints suspended mannequins were eye-catching (in a slightly creepy way), loving the carnival style sign!

Visual Merchandising Concepts
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009VM Concepts
We had the pleasure of working on a series of visual merchandising themes and concepts for an Australian women’s wear retailer. As a retail chain with a number of differing window sizes and shop formats, all VM concepts were applied to the smallest environment. Concepts needed to be cost effective, and feasible for staff members to create if necessary.
